Vision
The learning community of Elliott Heads State School has the vision of preparing our students today to participate fully and effectively in tomorrow’s world.
Mission statement
Elliott Heads State School endeavours to provide a supportive school environment in which the best educational outcomes can be achieved for all students.
Elliott Heads State School is located on the Coral Coast 20km from Bundaberg. The school has served the established communities of Elliott Heads and Riverview since 1912, celebrating its centenary in 2012. Families from Innes Park and Coral Cove also access Elliott Heads as their local school. Over the years, a number of families from Bundaberg have chosen to travel, to have their children attend Elliott Heads State School, because they value the small school atmosphere.
The community consists of people from a diverse range of socio-economic circumstances, including professionals, blue collar workers, small crop and cane farmers, farm workers, people in service industries and self-employed people. Several new housing sub-divisions in and around Elliott Heads are having an impact on the demographics of the area. These estates are providing quality accommodation and facilities for a more stable, permanent population.
Learning environment
Our school operates from 8.50am–3.00pm daily. Our fully air-conditioned school endeavours to provide a warm, welcoming and supportive environment for students and parents. Quality relationships are developed between students and staff, and these are frequently recognised by parents and visitors to the school. Staff members work hard to cater for and treat students as individuals, recognising students’ own set of personal circumstances and provide ongoing support where necessary.
Students who require additional learning support, or who have a learning disability, are catered for through the work of the support teacher literacy and numeracy, or the special education program teacher. For our gifted and talented students, opportunities are provided throughout the year to participate in extension programs at school in a multi-age setting, or through programs. Our school has strong links to the local high school, where our extension students have opportunities to participate in the Australian Curriculum Excellence programs in Maths, Science, English and the Arts.
Our responsible behaviour plan for students is reviewed regularly in both a formal and informal way, to ensure that it remains relevant to our students. Individual plans are developed for students where necessary. Our use of appropriate strategies and our effective management of ‘at risk’ students has contributed to the increasing satisfaction of parents in this area, as evidenced in School Opinion Surveys. Support has been provided to parents in managing behaviour at home, through workshops and other strategies.
We have a modern, well-equipped library and all classrooms have interactive whiteboards and a bank of modern, well-maintained computers for student use. Staff members are well equipped to integrate information and communication technologies (ICT) across all curriculum areas and to assist students to access and develop their ICT skills.
Specialist teachers visit the school weekly, to provide lessons in music, physical education and languages other than English (Japanese). Our school provides opportunities for interschool sport, athletics and a whole school swimming program.
The school has a positive and supportive atmosphere, a high level of parent and student satisfaction, as evidenced in school opinion surveys, and enjoys wonderful support from the local community. This has contributed to an overall enrolment growth over the past five years. We hope you and your children will enjoy a long and happy relationship with Elliott Heads State School and the Coral Coast communities.
